Mrs. Norwood-Martin is originally from Waycross, Georgia, where she began her study of dance at the age of three. She was involved in many extracurricular activities, including the Ware County Show Choir, Golden Gator Marching Band, Ware County Cheerleaders, and Ware County Dance Team, for which she was captain and choreographer.
She has appeared in a number of musicals, including Oklahoma!, Brigadoon, and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. Also a Governor’s Honors Dance nominee, Jennifer served as a dance assistant while in high school for Waycross Dance and Gymnastics, while continuing to study ballet, jazz, tap, and pointe.
She has continued her dance training throughout the United States, training under Frank Hatchett in New York City, Charissa Seaman (Britney Spear’s back-up dancer), Robert Hoffman (currently featured in the movie “You’ve Got Served”), and other renowned instructors. She was also invited to study dance at a camp for the Gifted Students in the Arts in North Carolina.
Jennifer is a two-time recipient of the NCA Superstar Award, and she has had the opportunity to perform for a nationally televised audience at the 1993 and the 1994 Jeep-Eagle Aloha Bowl in Hawaii, and the 1994 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
She followed her love for dance to Gainesville and Brenau University in 1994, where she studied dance pedagogy. She was a member of the Brenau Dance Ensemble, the school’s performing company. She has been teaching dance for over 10 years and has taught throughout the state of Georgia.
In the summer of 2003, Jennifer brought a group of her students to New York City, where they took classes at the Broadway Dance Center, enjoyed Times Square and several Broadway shows, and even had the opportunity to participate in “The Rockette Experience” at the Radio City Music Hall. While in New York, the Fine Living Network chose to feature Jennifer in a television program entitled “Fantasy Camps” which began to air in the Fall of 2003. Jennifer was also featured in a New York magazine discussing her dance program and her experiences while in New York.
In November of 2005, Jennifer had a select group of her dancers follow in her footsteps by performing in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City. In addition to performing in the parade, Jennifer and the students participated in several dance classes with top Broadway choreographers and attended some popular Broadway shows. APA is pleased to announce that they have recieved another invitation to perform in the parade in November 2006 as well as the Liberty Bowl in December 2006. Mrs. Norwood-Martin recently returned from Orlando where she had the honor to attend a workshop featuring the legends Chita Rivera, Ben Vereen, and Liza Minelli. She also had the opportunity to meet Christina Applegate who was honored as "Entertainer of the Year".
Mrs. Norwood- Martin is currently the choreographer for the Colonial Lakeshore Mall Teen Board, the Chestatee High School Drama Department, and the Black Bear Dinner Theater. She is also the proud owner and artistic director of the ACADEMY OF PERFORMING ARTS… HOME OF THE SUPERSTAR DANCERS!!
